Why is it that we are so tempted to favor some people over others? The real reason isn’t very flattering.
We don’t like to take responsibility for our own mistakes. It’s more satisfying to blame our genes, our circumstances, other people, the devil, or even God.
When a wealthy person visits the assembly, we warmly welcome him. He could really help the church. But why are we tempted to give a poor man the cold shoulder?
The Bible says that the tongue is like a great ship’s rudder. It’s small, but it determines the direction of the voyage. Unfortunately, our words may zigzag us all over the nautical map.
